I first met Zaahirah Muthy, the founder of Art Connects Women, some time ago during an earlier edition of the exhibition. That initial encounter left a lasting impression—not only because of her incredible energy and vision, but also because of the profound emotion behind the platform she created. From that moment, I knew this was something special.
Fast forward to today, and it has been an immense privilege to collaborate in this year’s edition—not just personally, but as a studio rooted in design, creativity, and cultural expression. Claire Dominics Buro proudly took part not only as a sponsor but as a strategic partner of the event, believing deeply in its message of unity, art, and the power of women worldwide.
At Claire Dominics Buro, art has always been part of how we design — not just as decoration, but as something that brings soul and meaning to a space. It’s this blend of interiors, architecture, and artistic emotion that defines our work.
That’s why events like Art Connects Women feel so close to heart. They remind us that creativity goes beyond aesthetics — it’s about stories, values, and human connection. And that’s exactly what we try to reflect in the spaces we create.
This year’s edition was especially powerful. With 112 women artists representing 112 countries—the largest in its history—it was a vibrant, global celebration of creativity and identity. The variety of media and techniques was breathtaking, and yet every piece shared something in common: you could feel the story behind it. Whether it was painting, sculpture, or mixed media, each work revealed the perspective, strength, and truth of its creator.
What I admired most was how harmoniously the entire experience was curated. More than a display, it was a narrative—a living conversation between artists and visitors, between heritage and future. As someone who lives by visual storytelling in my work, I could recognise the depth of this dialogue. Every element, every colour, every form carried meaning and message.
At Claire Dominics Buro, sustainability is not just a value—it’s a design principle. That’s why it was deeply meaningful to see this philosophy reflected so powerfully at Art Connects Women. The intricate work of Palestinian artist Neveen Abu Samra, crafted entirely from used teabags, stood as a poetic symbol of reuse and transformation. Nearby, Reunion-based artist CanB (Béatrice Neirinckx) reinterpreted Girl with a Pearl Earring using metal cans—blending classic imagery with conscious creativity.
These pieces remind us that sustainable art not only honors materials but carries deeper cultural stories—something we also strive to do in our interior design practice.
This year’s theme, Leave a Legacy, resonated deeply with me. It’s not only about what we create, but what we pass on—what lives beyond us. I felt especially proud that Tatiana Latynina de Ordovsky-Tanaevsky, my mother-in-law was among the exhibiting artists, with her sculpture In Search of Yourself capturing the generational dream of becoming a ballerina, handed down from mother to daughter. Quiet, graceful, and profound, her work perfectly embodied the spirit of this year’s exhibition.
And beyond the exhibition walls, the experience continued.
We began with an inspiring cultural tour to Abu Dhabi, visiting the Biennale — a powerful start that set the tone of creativity and dialogue for the days to come. The visit to the Abrahamic Family House deeply touched me, as it reflected so beautifully the values at the heart of Art Connects Women: understanding, mutual respect, and universal love. To complete this day of cultural immersion, we explored the Louvre Abu Dhabi — a true gem of our journey, and a shining reminder of how art unites humanity across time and space.
A deeply meaningful highlight of the event was the panel discussions.
I had the honour not only to patron this panel but also to share my perspective on how we, as women and leaders, can accelerate action towards meaningful change. It was a privilege to speak alongside such inspiring women whose journeys deeply resonated with my own.
Dr. Eng. Suaad Al Shamsi shared her inspiring journey as a pioneering Emirati aviation researcher, breaking boundaries in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Dr. Caroline Faraj brought invaluable insights from the media world, as Vice President of CNN and Editor-in-Chief of CNN Arabic, sharing lessons from her experience leading one of the region’s most influential news platforms. Dr. Yasmina Fechkeur moved us all with her story of perseverance, vision, and the courage to leave an established career in medicine to embark on a new entrepreneurial path as founder of Pray Easy.
Our panel was beautifully moderated by Paddy Kennedy, a strategic communication advisor and leadership coach, whose thoughtful guidance and skilful moderation created a space for genuine dialogue. She ensured that each of our stories was heard and connected, weaving our diverse experiences into a coherent and inspiring conversation. Her warm presence and expertise in navigating meaningful discussions added a special depth to the panel.
What touched me most was the openness of every woman at the table — we shared personal journeys, real challenges, and victories hard-earned. And even more moving was the response from the audience — so many women came to me afterward, saying how inspired they felt and how ready they were to take the next steps toward their goals.
These moments of genuine exchange are what give true meaning to gatherings like this. Our panel, with its honest reflections and open dialogue, truly captured the spirit of Art Connects Women — a space where experiences are shared, legacies are honoured, and new inspiration is born for the journey ahead.
We were also deeply honoured by the visit of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose presence added a sense of prestige and recognition to this extraordinary initiative.
We were especially touched by her genuine interest in our family legacy sculpture, “In Search of Yourself”, and the story it represents. Her Highness’s attention and support towards events like Art Connects Women, which aim to build bridges between cultures and foster genuine global unity, serve as a powerful reminder of how art can inspire connection, empathy, and cultural dialogue at the highest level.
The closing Gala Night was the perfect finale.
112 remarkable women from 112 countries, gathered in the magnificent Royal Ballroom of the One&Only Royal Mirage. Dressed in their beautiful national attire, they received awards with pride, while the evening unfolded with music, dance, laughter, and shared stories. It was a night of unity, friendship, and unforgettable moments. The atmosphere was so warm and full of life, it was genuinely hard to say goodbye to those flying home.
A special highlight of the evening was the remarkable fashion show by Spanish artist Rosana Largo, whose collection paid tribute to the legacy of Frida Kahlo. Dresses were presented not merely as garments but as true works of art, rich in symbolism and meaning — a stunning conclusion to a night filled with beauty and creativity.
What an event.
Truly one of the most soulful gatherings I’ve experienced. That beautiful feeling of happiness, yet bittersweet sadness, when something so special comes to an end. I met incredible, deeply inspiring people—women and a few wonderful gentlemen—who were open, sincere, and full of shared purpose.
Zaahirah, you are wonderful. Beyond being one of my favourite artists—so talented, sophisticated, and emotionally profound—you have once again brought out the very best in us all. Your art always evokes emotion, but your commitment to building this global platform for women is simply extraordinary. You give us a space to see no limits, to believe, to connect, and to celebrate a world without borders. Your work inspires countless women to push forward, to grow, and to be part of this incredible journey every year.
Thank you for creating not just an event, but a legacy.
